The City of Helotes is proud to announce an improved insurance underwriting rate for residential and commercial properties. The Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS) rating from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) assessed the City a rating of 4 for one and two family residential properties and a rating of 4 for commercial and industrial properties. Under the direction of Ernest Cruz, Development Services Director, and his staff, the rating for one and two family residential properties improved from 6 to 4. Likewise, the rating for commercial and industrial properties also improved from 6 to 4. The rating increases are part of the City’s effort to continually monitor, strengthen, and improve processes and procedures within the City of Helotes.
The ISO is known as a leading source of information to help assess property and casualty insurance risk. As an advisory organization, the ISO ratings are a tool for insurance underwriting and should not be considered for determining compliance with any state or local laws. The ISO BCEGS program specifically reviews current building codes and their corresponding enforcement within a particular community. The program places a special emphasis on mitigation of losses from natural hazards. These components are used to determine the rating given by the ISO BCEGS program.
“The City of Helotes extends its appreciation for the hard work of its Staff members who are committed to making our community a safe and pleasant place to own a home and raise a family. I know we employ top-notch Staff, and the recent ISO BCEGS program rating for the City demonstrates the Development Services Department’s commitment to the City’s residents and business owners. I wish the team continued success,” shared City Administrator, Rick Schroder.
