The Texas Department of Transportation has submitted a proposed project to the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization as a part of the AAMPO's current call for projects. The project would widen F.M. 1560 from Shaenfield and Galm Rds. to its intersection with Bandera Rd. from two- to four-lanes, including a center median, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities. If selected, the project will be added to the AAMPO's Transportation Improvement Program, or TIP.
A considerable amount of right-of-way and utilities are in conflict with the proposed project, and environmental clearance must be achieved through the Federal and State Governments. Consequently, the project - if funded - is not expected to let for construction until 2022 - 2023.
On December 14, 2017, City Council provided its formal support of the project through a Resolution approving the project. TxDOT has started project development efforts in the hopes of receiving necessary funding soon.
