The Helotes Area Community Band, under the direction of Chuck Kuentz, was organized in July 2008 with seven musicians and has grown to over 60 active musicians. Charles L. Kuentz, Jr., namesake of Kuentz Elementary School, serves as the Band's Director Emeritus. The Band plays all kinds of music, depending on the venue, from children's songs to complex classical arrangements. The Band is comprised of musicians of all ages and abilities, ranging from high school students to retired professionals. We welcome new musicians from Helotes and surrounding towns who would like to enjoy playing great music with others and are not afraid of a little hard work and dedication.
We play at least two major concerts each year, as well as Movie Nights at the Park in the summer and various special events throughout the year. The band played its first concert at our first movie night on August 22, 2008 with 17 musicians. One of the most notable concerts was in the rotunda of the State Capital in Austin on March 6, 2015. Many of the band’s concerts can be viewed on YouTube or through the City’s website at helotes-tx.gov, clicking on the “videos” tab, and then clicking on the “special events” tab. Feel free to visit and observe one of our rehearsals at the First Baptist Church of Helotes, 14889 Old Bandera Road, on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m.
The Band is accepting donations of gently used equipment, especially percussion instruments. All donations are tax deductible.
You're invited to Whimsical Annie's Garden & Gifts for a Holiday Open House!
