The Texas Department of Transportation submitted a proposed project to the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization as a part of the AAMPO's current call for projects. The project would widen F.M. 1560 from Shaenfield and Galm Rds. to its intersection with Bandera Rd. from two- to four-lanes, including a center median, sidewalks, and bicycle facilities. The project was selected and added to the AAMPO's Transportation Improvement Program, or TIP.
A considerable amount of right-of-way and utilities are in conflict with the project, and environmental clearance must be achieved through the Federal and State Governments. Consequently, the project is not expected to let for construction until 2022 - 2023.
On December 14, 2017, City Council provided its formal support of the project through a Resolution approving the project. TxDOT has started project development efforts.
