The Helotes Area Community Band, under the direction of Chuck Kuentz, was organized in July 2008 with seven members and has grown to over 60 active musicians. Charles L. Kuentz, Jr., namesake of Kuentz Elementary School, serves as the Band's Director Emeritus.
The Band plays all kinds of music, depending on the venue, from children's songs to complex classical arrangements. The Band is comprised of musicians of all ages and abilities, ranging from high school students to retired professionals. We welcome new musicians from Helotes and surrounding towns who would like to enjoy playing great music with others and are not afraid of a little hard work and dedication.
Interested musicians are encouraged to contact Chuck Kuentz at email@example.com. Please note, we currently have a wait list for trumpets and flutes.
We play at least three major concerts each year, as well as Movie Nights at the Park in the summer and various special events throughout the year. The band played its first concert at the first City of Helotes Movie Night on August 22, 2008 with 17 musicians. Our most notable concerts were in the rotunda of the State Capital in Austin on March 6, 2015 and March 8, 2019.
Many of our concerts can be viewed on the Helotes Area Community Band YouTube page or through the City’s website at helotes-tx.gov, clicking on the “videos” tab, and then clicking on the “special events” tab.
Rehearsals take place at the First Baptist Church of Helotes, located at 14889 Old Bandera Road, on Monday nights starting at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcomed!
The Band is currently accepting donations of gently used equipment, especially percussion instruments. All donations are tax deductible.

Welcome! We are a rapidly growing community band representing the City of Helotes, Texas. It is with great hope and expectation that membership in this organization will be a most rewarding and gratifying musical experience; keeping in mind that “music is a universal language” that soothes and warms the soul.
Chuck Kuentz, Director Charles L. Kuentz, Jr., Director Emeritus
The goal of the Helotes Area Community Band (HACB) is to be a leader in musical performance and encourage community participation, to promote wind music and the concept of the community concert band, and to make a substantial contribution to musical life in the Helotes, Texas area. We will do this by performing a wide-range of high-quality music; by presenting frequent concerts, participating in festivals, and other events. We will welcome musicians in the band who are serious and can perform at an advanced high school level, and are serious about elevating their musical skills to a higher level. Musicians will be admitted into the band upon a satisfactory audition with one or both directors, and the availability of an opening in the desired section.
